Q.What is ID3 tag?
A.ID3 tag is special sections within an MP3 file in which information
about the artist, album, title, etc. can be stored. During the development
of MP3, the ID3 tag has changed a lot. Today there are two versions which
are used: ID3v1 and ID3v2. The primary difference between these versions
is:
ID3v1 only contains entries for the title (30), artist (30), album (30),
defined genres, year and a comment. The numbers in brackets tells you
many characters an entry can contain, because the entry length is limited.
These limits do not exists in the ID3v2 tag, and not only are entries are
no longer limited in their length, there are also a much greater number
of entries possible, like songwriter, web addresses, art picture etc.
Tag and M3U supports all ID3v2 tag fields that use Winamp, but you
can also edit ID3v2 tags created in another program. Tag and M3U
NEVER deletes any unknown tag fields.
ID3v2 tags are stored in the beginning of the mp3 file, that's why it
takes so much time to write it the first time (Tag and M3U needs to move
all the file data).

Q.How to create a new playlist?
A.At first, you will have to switch to the List Maker mode and then you can create a new playlist. Here, Tag and M3U provides three options as follows:
- by Artist
- by Genre
- by Album
Simply click on one of them to show the existing playlists in its category. Click New Playlist button on the toolbar. In the opened dialog enter the name for the new playlist. But you may ask, it would be better if I could browse a folder, from which I can select some files to add into the playlist. The solution is, if you have generated an m3u file in the Tag Editor window, now you will find it here and navigate to it. You can add new files to the playlist or you can choose to add all the files contained in one folder simply by adding the folder.
A better and fast way is, when you have edited the tags of your files you can click the pull down arrow on the Save Playlist button to generate a m3u file in the library. Wow! You do not need to choose the files one by one as you did. For example, you can check all files with the artist = Gun&Rose, and then choose save this by Artist. An m3u list named Gun&Rose. M3u is created in the library. From now on, you can enjoy your favorite music just press one button, just like you do with the Mp3 player or Audio devices at home.
